As a teenager, it’s really easy to feel bored and unmotivated when you’re sitting at home. It can be tempting to pick up your phone and scroll through TikTok or Instagram for hours on end.

If you’ve ever felt this way, you probably need to pick up a new hobby! I love having hobbies because they make you productive, keep you from getting bored, and help you develop new skills.

I’ve seen so many lists of hobbies for teenage girls on the internet that include really lame stuff. That’s why I wanted to put together this list of hobbies for teens that are actually fun and enjoyable!

I’ve included creative hobbies, active hobbies, productive hobbies, and even hobbies you can do with friends. With this list, you’ll never be bored again!

Creative Hobbies For Teenage Girls

1. Tie Dye Clothes

One really fun hobby for teens is to make tie dye t-shirts. There are SO many different designs and patterns you can make with tie dye, so it’s a hobby that will last for a long time. Here are some really fun patterns to get your creative juices flowing.

Make sure you have the right equipment before you get started tie dyeing. You’ll need some white t-shirts (or other white clothing), a surface that you don’t mind getting dirty, rubber bands, and a tie dye kit.

2. Baking

Baking is another great hobby for teenagers because it’s fun, challenging, and you get to enjoy the fruits of your labor at the end! There are SO many great baking recipes out there so you’ll never run out of things to make.

If you’re just starting out in the kitchen, I recommend baking something easier like chocolate chip cookies or brownies. Then move on to the harder stuff like bread, cakes, and other baked goods.

Totally new to baking? Here’s a great beginner’s baking kit that has everything you’ll need in it to get started.

3. Painting

Painting is a great hobby for teenage girls who want to relax and be creative. Drawing and painting are incredibly calming activities that get your creative juices flowing.

Painting is also a great hobby because it requires very little startup costs and it can be done pretty much anywhere. Get a few low-cost canvases or paint pads to start painting on. If you’re just starting out, just get a beginner’s pack of paints and brushes.

Keep in mind that this is a hobby and it should bring you joy, not stress! A lot of people avoid art because they’re afraid of not being good at it. If you’re not good at painting at first, who cares? Just enjoy the process!

4. Learn An Instrument

Learning an instrument is a great hobby for teenagers because it is a valuable skill to have. Playing an instrument helps you develop fine motor skills and improves your memory.

Some instruments that teenagers may enjoy learning to play are guitar, piano, violin, or drums. You may want to join the school band or orchestra if you really enjoy playing an instrument.

Keep in mind that learning an instrument requires lots of patience and practice. Musical skills take YEARS to develop so don’t give up if you’re not great at it right away.

5. Photography

Photography is one of my personal favorite hobbies because it’s fun, creative, and can be super useful in your adult life.

There are many different ways that you can practice photography, whether it’s shooting portraits, outdoor landscapes, or even film photography. I took a film photography class in high school and it was one of my favorite classes ever!

Photography is a great skill to learn because it can be used in a lot of different jobs when you’re an adult. Photos and video skills are so important for marketing jobs, blogging, social media work, and other professions.

If you’re serious about photography, you’ll want to invest in a good camera and some editing software like Lightroom.

6. Knitting

Kitting is a fun hobby for any teenager who likes to be creative. I learned to knit when I was young and always had so much fun knitting hats and scarves for my friends.

7. Sewing

Another great creative hobby for teen girls is sewing. Learning how to sew is such a cool skill because it gives you the ability to make or alter your own clothes.

Pottery is one of those hobbies that I’ve always wanted to pick up! How cool would it be to be able to make your own mugs and vases?

11. Learn How To Do Makeup

You may not even realize it, but makeup requires a lot of skill and creativity! If you like doing your makeup, you can try to branch out and learn different makeup looks.

Do you have the neatest handwriting in your class? Then you definitely need to try out hand lettering or calligraphy as a hobby!

Hand lettering is relaxing, useful, and super easy to start doing! All you really need is a pencil, pen, and piece of paper to get started. Watch some free YouTube tutorials to learn the basics and then just start practicing.

This is a great hobby for teenagers who want to make some money because it can be easily monetized. Start a calligraphy business for stationary, event signage, or even local restaurants menu boards. The possibilities are endless!

14. Learn How To Do Nail Art

Another fun hobby for beauty gurus is learning nail art. Learning how to do nails requires tons of patience, creativity, and a steady hand.

15. Do A Puzzle

One of the most relaxing hobbies of all-time is doing puzzles. I love puzzles because they allow you to zone out for a few hours and just be super in the moment.

Puzzles are also great because you don’t have to finish them in one sitting. You can work on your puzzle for a few hours and then pick up where you left off the next day.

All you really need to get started is a good puzzle, but I also recommend getting a puzzle board so you can move your puzzle around. That way you can work on your puzzle on the dining room table, in front of the TV, or even on your bed.

Active Hobbies For Teenage Girls

16. Bike Riding

Bike riding is one of the best active hobbies for teenage girls because it’s a good workout, fun, and not too challenging to get started. Plus, if you don’t have your driver’s license yet it’s a great way to get around.

All you really need to get started cycling is a bike and helmet. You can even borrow a bike from a friend or family member if you don’t have your own yet.

17. Hiking

Hiking is one of my all-time favorite hobbies. I love the feeling of getting outdoors and exploring nature.

Hiking helps you reduce stress, get your heart rate pumping, and connect with nature. It’s also really easy to get started which makes it perfect for anyone who isn’t in the best shape.

Check Alltrails to see if you have any good hiking trails in your area. If you don’t have any nearby, you could even just go walking in a park!

I wish I had started lifting weights when I was a teenager! While all forms of exercise are amazing, lifting weights has been one of my favorite ways to get in shape and stick to a workout routine.

Gymnastics is a great hobby for girls of any age! It’s true that it is easier to pick up when you’re young, but don’t let that stop you! You can benefit from doing gymnastics even if you’re not at a world-champion level with it.

I love gymnastics because it really doesn’t require much equipment. You can go to a local gymnastics center if you’d like, or you can just start practicing in your house. Just make sure you start on a padded surface like a carpeted living room!

24. Rock Climbing

Rock climbing is an amazing hobby that really gets you in good shape. This one is a little bit more difficult to start than others on this list because you’ll need to go to a rock climbing gym every time you want to practice.

If you really enjoy rock climbing, most gyms offer monthly memberships that will make it cheaper than paying each time you go. You can also try your hand at outdoor rock climbing if you’re feeling confident in your abilities!

25. Yoga

Your teenage years are some of the most stressful years of your life. I truly believe every teenage girl could benefit from practicing yoga and meditation.

Yoga helps you slow down and turn your focus inward. Not only is it great for your mind, but it’s also really good for your body. Yoga poses are a lot harder than they look, and you’ll be working muscles you don’t normally use! Don’t be alarmed if you’re super sore after your first yoga session.

Find a local yoga studio, sign up for classes through your city’s recreation center, or just practice at home with some guided youtube videos! There’s no wrong way to do it as long as it feels right to you.

One unique hobby that teenage girls can pick up is learning survival skills. Survival skills are so important if you plan on camping or backpacking in the future.

40. Cooking

Another one of the best hobbies for teenage girls is learning how to cook. Cooking is one of my favorite activities because it’s fun, allows you to be creative, and you get to eat your creation at the end!

I firmly believe that all teenagers should learn how to cook before they head off to college. It makes it so much easier (and cheaper) to eat healthy and nourishing meals in college.
