As a teenager, it’s really easy to feel bored and unmotivated when you’re sitting at home. It can be tempting to pick up your phone and scroll through TikTok or Instagram for hours on end.
If you’ve ever felt this way, you probably need to pick up a new hobby! I love having hobbies because they make you productive, keep you from getting bored, and help you develop new skills.
I’ve seen so many lists of hobbies for teenage girls on the internet that include really lame stuff. That’s why I wanted to put together this list of hobbies for teens that are actually fun and enjoyable!
I’ve included creative hobbies, active hobbies, productive hobbies, and even hobbies you can do with friends. With this list, you’ll never be bored again!
Creative Hobbies For Teenage Girls
1. Tie Dye Clothes
One really fun hobby for teens is to make tie dye t-shirts. There are SO many different designs and patterns you can make with tie dye, so it’s a hobby that will last for a long time. Here are some really fun patterns to get your creative juices flowing.
Make sure you have the right equipment before you get started tie dyeing. You’ll need some white t-shirts (or other white clothing), a surface that you don’t mind getting dirty, rubber bands, and a tie dye kit.
Baking is another great hobby for teenagers because it’s fun, challenging, and you get to enjoy the fruits of your labor at the end! There are SO many great baking recipes out there so you’ll never run out of things to make.
If you’re just starting out in the kitchen, I recommend baking something easier like chocolate chip cookies or brownies. Then move on to the harder stuff like bread, cakes, and other baked goods.
Totally new to baking? Here’s a great beginner’s baking kit that has everything you’ll need in it to get started.
Painting is a great hobby for teenage girls who want to relax and be creative. Drawing and painting are incredibly calming activities that get your creative juices flowing.
Painting is also a great hobby because it requires very little startup costs and it can be done pretty much anywhere. Get a few low-cost canvases or paint pads to start painting on. If you’re just starting out, just get a beginner’s pack of paints and brushes.
Keep in mind that this is a hobby and it should bring you joy, not stress! A lot of people avoid art because they’re afraid of not being good at it. If you’re not good at painting at first, who cares? Just enjoy the process!
4. Learn An Instrument
Learning an instrument is a great hobby for teenagers because it is a valuable skill to have. Playing an instrument helps you develop fine motor skills and improves your memory.
Some instruments that teenagers may enjoy learning to play are guitar, piano, violin, or drums. You may want to join the school band or orchestra if you really enjoy playing an instrument.
Keep in mind that learning an instrument requires lots of patience and practice. Musical skills take YEARS to develop so don’t give up if you’re not great at it right away.
Photography is one of my personal favorite hobbies because it’s fun, creative, and can be super useful in your adult life.
There are many different ways that you can practice photography, whether it’s shooting portraits, outdoor landscapes, or even film photography. I took a film photography class in high school and it was one of my favorite classes ever!
Photography is a great skill to learn because it can be used in a lot of different jobs when you’re an adult. Photos and video skills are so important for marketing jobs, blogging, social media work, and other professions.
If you’re serious about photography, you’ll want to invest in a good camera and some editing software like Lightroom.
Kitting is a fun hobby for any teenager who likes to be creative. I learned to knit when I was young and always had so much fun knitting hats and scarves for my friends.
I love knitting because it can be done pretty much anywhere, it helps you develop motor coordination and dexterity, and can help lower stress levels. It’s more of a passive hobby because you can do it while you watch TV or talk with your friends.
Another great creative hobby for teen girls is sewing. Learning how to sew is such a cool skill because it gives you the ability to make or alter your own clothes.
Imagine having a totally custom wardrobe that consists of only clothes that fit you perfectly? That’s what you can have when you get good at sewing!
Not sure where to start? Here are some great modern sewing patterns for teenage girls.

Pottery is one of those hobbies that I’ve always wanted to pick up! How cool would it be to be able to make your own mugs and vases?
I recommend taking a pottery class at a local studio so you can get the fundamentals down. Then you can start investing in your own supplies if you think it’s something you want to pursue!
11. Learn How To Do Makeup
You may not even realize it, but makeup requires a lot of skill and creativity! If you like doing your makeup, you can try to branch out and learn different makeup looks.
Check out tutorials on YouTube to learn different styles, application methods, and techniques. Ask your friends if you can practice on them or just try out different looks on your own face!

Do you have the neatest handwriting in your class? Then you definitely need to try out hand lettering or calligraphy as a hobby!
Hand lettering is relaxing, useful, and super easy to start doing! All you really need is a pencil, pen, and piece of paper to get started. Watch some free YouTube tutorials to learn the basics and then just start practicing.

15. Do A Puzzle
One of the most relaxing hobbies of all-time is doing puzzles. I love puzzles because they allow you to zone out for a few hours and just be super in the moment.
Puzzles are also great because you don’t have to finish them in one sitting. You can work on your puzzle for a few hours and then pick up where you left off the next day.
All you really need to get started is a good puzzle, but I also recommend getting a puzzle board so you can move your puzzle around. That way you can work on your puzzle on the dining room table, in front of the TV, or even on your bed.
Active Hobbies For Teenage Girls
16. Bike Riding
Bike riding is one of the best active hobbies for teenage girls because it’s a good workout, fun, and not too challenging to get started. Plus, if you don’t have your driver’s license yet it’s a great way to get around.
All you really need to get started cycling is a bike and helmet. You can even borrow a bike from a friend or family member if you don’t have your own yet.
Hiking is one of my all-time favorite hobbies. I love the feeling of getting outdoors and exploring nature.
Hiking helps you reduce stress, get your heart rate pumping, and connect with nature. It’s also really easy to get started which makes it perfect for anyone who isn’t in the best shape.
Check Alltrails to see if you have any good hiking trails in your area. If you don’t have any nearby, you could even just go walking in a park!
18. Lifting Weights
I wish I had started lifting weights when I was a teenager! While all forms of exercise are amazing, lifting weights has been one of my favorite ways to get in shape and stick to a workout routine.
You could either use the gym at your school, join a local fitness club, or buy some weights and start lifting at home. Be sure to watch some tutorials before you start so that you learn proper form and avoid injuries.
One of my favorite hobbies for teen girls is dancing. Not only is it a lot of fun, but it’s also an amazing workout!
TikTok has made dancing incredibly popular right now, especially among teenage girls. An easy way to get started is to just grab your phone and try to learn some trending TikTok dances.
If you want more formal instruction you could join a dance class online or in person. There are SO many types of dance you can learn like ballet, hip hop, salsa, etc.
Another great fitness hobby for teens is swimming. Swimming is an amazing workout and it’s much easier on your joints than other forms of exercise.
Ask if you can use your school’s pool or find a community swimming pool near you. If you really enjoy swimming, you may even want to join your school’s swim team.

22. Roller Blading
Another great activity that is so fun it doesn’t feel like exercise is roller blading. Strap on a pair of skates and blade around your neighborhood! It’s a great way to stay active, enjoy the outdoors, and get around quicker.
I’ve seen so many teen girls roller blading on TikTok lately – it’s definitely a really cool and trendy hobby right now! Once you get the basics down, you can even start to learn tricks like rolling backward or doing jumps.
Gymnastics is a great hobby for girls of any age! It’s true that it is easier to pick up when you’re young, but don’t let that stop you! You can benefit from doing gymnastics even if you’re not at a world-champion level with it.
I love gymnastics because it really doesn’t require much equipment. You can go to a local gymnastics center if you’d like, or you can just start practicing in your house. Just make sure you start on a padded surface like a carpeted living room!
24. Rock Climbing
Rock climbing is an amazing hobby that really gets you in good shape. This one is a little bit more difficult to start than others on this list because you’ll need to go to a rock climbing gym every time you want to practice.
If you really enjoy rock climbing, most gyms offer monthly memberships that will make it cheaper than paying each time you go. You can also try your hand at outdoor rock climbing if you’re feeling confident in your abilities!
Your teenage years are some of the most stressful years of your life. I truly believe every teenage girl could benefit from practicing yoga and meditation.
Yoga helps you slow down and turn your focus inward. Not only is it great for your mind, but it’s also really good for your body. Yoga poses are a lot harder than they look, and you’ll be working muscles you don’t normally use! Don’t be alarmed if you’re super sore after your first yoga session.
Find a local yoga studio, sign up for classes through your city’s recreation center, or just practice at home with some guided youtube videos! There’s no wrong way to do it as long as it feels right to you.
People swear by running as a way to stay in shape and calm your mind. If you get into a good groove with it, running can feel almost therapeutic.

Apps like Duolingo and Babbel make it extremely easy to start learning a language at home.
I may be a bit biased, but I think blogging is one of the best hobbies for teenage girls. Blogging has benefitted me in so many ways and I wish I had started when I was a teenager!
Blogging helps me think creatively, write better, and it makes me money. You can either blog as a hobby or start a blogging business like I did! This affordable ebook was super helpful when I was first starting out as a blogger.
Another great example of a productive hobby for teens is reading. Reading a book helps improve your vocabulary and comprehension, reduces stress, and prevents cognitive decline as you age.
If you’re not sure what to read, try looking at what’s trending right now. Open TikTok and search the #booktok hashtag. You’ll see what other girls your age are currently reading and enjoying.
Do you enjoy spending time with kids? Make a little bit of money from it and start babysitting in your free time!

32. Personal Finance And Investing
I know this sounds like kind of a lame hobby, but I promise it’s actually a super interesting topic! The earlier in life you learn how to manage your money, the better.
Investing early in life gives you a HUGE advantage to growing your wealth. That’s because interest compounds (aka your money starts earning its own money). This article is a fantastic resource for any teenagers looking to get into investing.
33. Gig Work
Looking for fun ways to make money without getting a traditional job? Try out gig work!
Gig work is basically when you’re a contractor for a company instead of an employee. This typically means you can set your own hours and have a lot more flexibility around your school schedule.
Some examples of gig work are driving for Uber, delivering food on DoorDash, becoming a dog walker on Rover, or pretty much anything you can think of on Fiverr!
34. Take Online Courses
When you’re in high school it can be hard to think of learning as a hobby. But trust me, learning becomes so much more fun when you get to choose the topic and teaching style!
Taking online courses about things that interest you is an amazing and productive hobby for teens. There are online courses for pretty much anything you can think of, so let your imagination run wild.

Volunteer at a soup kitchen, animal shelter, your local parks department, elder care facility, etc.
36. Decorating Your Bedroom
Decorating your room is another one of my favorite productive hobbies for teenage girls. Your bedroom is probably the place in your house where you spend the most time, so you’ll want to make it as nice as possible.

39. Learn Survival Skills
One unique hobby that teenage girls can pick up is learning survival skills. Survival skills are so important if you plan on camping or backpacking in the future.
Some examples of survival skills are learning how to start a fire, create potable water, tie different types of knots, building a shelter, etc. Basically anything you would need to know in order to survive if you were lost in the woods!
Another one of the best hobbies for teenage girls is learning how to cook. Cooking is one of my favorite activities because it’s fun, allows you to be creative, and you get to eat your creation at the end!
I firmly believe that all teenagers should learn how to cook before they head off to college. It makes it so much easier (and cheaper) to eat healthy and nourishing meals in college.
41. Dog Walking
Do you love hanging out with furry friends all day? You can play with dogs and get paid if you become a dog walker!
Sign up with Rover or just ask around your neighborhood to see if anyone needs help walking their dog. This is one of my favorite productive hobbies for teenage girls because it keeps you active and makes you money.
Hobbies For Teenage Girls To Do With Friends
Tennis is a great way to stay active and hang out with your friends. You can play singles or doubles so this is great for a friend group of 2 or 4.

46. Wash Cars
Looking for a good hobby to do with friends that will make you some money? Start a car washing business!
People always need to have their car washed, and most people would rather give their money to local teenagers than to a random car washing company. Start washing cars in the street in front of your house or ask local businesses if you can set up shop in their parking lot.
47. Start A Band
Do you and your friends all have musical abilities? Put those skills to good use and start a band together!
Even if you don’t have big dreams of becoming a rock star someday, starting a band with your friends is a fun way to be creative, become closer as friends, and improve your music skills.
